IKEDURU LOCAL GOVERNMENT

ikeduru mapIkeduru Local Government was created out of the former Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Local Government Areas in 1989 and is one of the 27 Local Government Areas in Imo State of Nigeria. Its Headquarters is located at Iho along Iho-Uboakiri road Mbaitoli.

It shares boundaries with Isiala Mbano on the North, Owerri North Local Government Area on the South, Aboh Mbaise and Ahiazu Local Government Areas on the West. Ikeduru has a population of about 178,481.

 

Ikeduru has 24 Autonomous Communities namely:

Inyishi, Amaeke, Eziama, Amaimo, Umuofor, Umuiri, Okwu, Avuvu, Owuala Avuvu, Amakohia, Umudim, Atta, Ngugo, Atta West, Owubinubi, Ikembara, Ugirike, Umuonyeukwu, Abazu, Akabo, Amatta, Iho-Dimeze, Ebikoro and Uzoagba.

Natural & Agricultural Resources

Mineral Resources exist in the Local Government such as Phosphate, limestone, Kaolin, Stone granites and Silica, sand etc. the Local Government is blessed with agricultural products such as cassava, palm wine, cocoyam, maize, livestock, palmoil etc.

Tourist Attraction in the L. G. A.

Ikeduru has about 100% of its landmarks situated on the hills particularly the Eke Omumiri hills located at Amakohia/Owubinubi axis, Uzoagba/Eziama hills, Onu-oha and onu Ngara hills located at Okwu and Avuvu respectively, Ugirike/Obohia hills are all marvelous sites to behold. The Mba and Oramiri Ukwu confluence at Avuvu Ikeduru is a great tourist centre.

Departments & Heads

Administrative Department 

The Department is incharge of all administrative functions of the Council such as recruitment, promotion, discipline and welfare of the staff and is called the Engine room of the Council. The department assist the Executive Chairman in policy making and day to day running of the council.

Planning and Statistics Department

Takes care of Nominal rolls, data collection, assist in the organization of statistical development programmes to the needs of the council. Advise the council on matters relating to budgeting.

Agriculture and Natural Resources:

Supervises all the implementation of all Agriculture development programme in the Local Government and on matters of Agricultural policies and programmes. Educate farmers on best agricultural products.

Health Department

The department is incharge of infant welfare services and health of the people at the grassroot in terms of curative and preventive matters, dissemination and distribution of essential drugs to the people.

Works/Transport Department 

The Department supervises building works being executed by the Local Government either by contract or direct labour. Advise the Local Government on Works, Transport and Housing matters.

Finance and Supplies

The department ensures that the accounting system laid down in the new financial memoranda for the Local Government Area are complied with. Is the custodian of security document of the Local Government. Incharge of all financial and accounting functions of the Local Government Area pays staff salaries etc.

Social Welfare, Education, Information, Sport and Culture Department

Is a new department which carries out its duties according to specifications under sub units in the department.
